Dr. Joanna Paul - Principal - joannapaul@dcmsbahamas.org
Originally from London, Dr. Paul moved to Southern California where she most recently worked as the principal of an environmentally themed public school. She is certified to teach at the secondary level in the United States, and holds a Bachelor's degree in secondary education from the University of Pennsylvania, a Masters in Education Leadership and Administration from California State University Northridge, and a Doctorate in International Education from the University of London. As principal, Dr. Paul is implementing the recommendations from last year’s school review process, enhancing our partnership with The Cape Eleuthera Foundation and increasing opportunities for teachers and students to achieve the mission of the school. She also assists with physical education, SCUBA, and community outreach classes.
Ms. Ashley Anderson - Math - ashleyanderson@dcmsbahamas.org
Ms. Anderson grew up in New England and received her degree in Mathematics from Bowdoin College in Maine. Prior to moving to Eleuthera, Ms. Anderson lived in San Diego managing educational centers for students ages four through sixteen. She is thrilled to be back in Deep Creek for her fourth year and playing shortstop for Deep Creek's softball team, the Conch Pearls. She is actively employing strategies to improve differentiation of the math curriculum and leads the adult programs for the South Eleuthera community.
Mr. Patrick Choquette - Science, SCUBA, Community Outreach, and Physical Education

Mr. Choquette was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa and received a Bachelors of Arts in general science and Biology from Grinnell College where he was also the captain of the basketball team. After graduation, he worked as an assistant men's basketball coach at Cornell College in Iowa. He then joined the Peace Corps and was sent a small village in Ghana, West Africa where he taught Biology, Physics, and Chemistry at Adankwaman Secondary School. During his two years in Ghana, Mr. Choquette built a basketball court at the school and coached both the boys and girls teams. He then returned to the U.S. to work with President Obama's campaign as a field organizer. Most recently, Mr. Choquette was serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the Des Moines Human Rights Commission focusing on community education about housing and employment rights.

Pastor Brad, a native of Eleuthera, grew up in Rock Sound where he attended Rock Sound Primary and Preston H. Albury High School. He completed his pastoral training and exams in Nassau at the Church of God Convention Center. He has served as the pastor of the Church of God in Weymss Bight for nearly five years and teaches Sunday school there. He shares his passion for music with his congregation playing guitar, drums, and bass with the church band during services and teaching youth to play. In his second year at DCMS, Pastor Brad enjoys shooting hoops with the students before school and teaching the Religious Knowledge curriculum in a middle school classroom setting.
Ms. Megan Kelly - English - megankelly@dcmsbahamas.org
Ms. Kelly is excited to be teaching English at Deep Creek Middle School for her fourth year. A Boston native, she graduated from Wheaton College with a degree in Hispanic Studies. Megan is dedicated to international and experiential education and has taught English in Japan and Greece. She has also led high school and college students on semesters in the South Pacific and Central America. Ms. Kelly is passionate about creating a strong community of readers at DCMS and in South Eleuthera. She has improved the ELA curriculum to make reading a valued part of every student's day during and after school.
Ms. Kate McAlaine - Social Studies and Art - katemcalaine@dcmsbahamas.org
Although originally from Philadelphia, Ms. McAlaine considers Eleuthera to be a second home. She has spent a significant amount of time on the island over the past 12 years. After graduating with a B.A. from Connecticut College and traveling through Central America, Europe, and Africa, she worked at the SEED Public Charter School in Southeast Washington, DC. In her fourth year at the Deep Creek Middle School, she runs the after school literacy program and has initiated an after school sports program. During her tenure, Ms. McAlaine has spearheaded the fundraising and planning efforts for a new basketball court and planned an extremely successful street fair of local artisans to bring the communities of South Eleuthera and the Cape Eleuthera Foundation closer together.
Ms. Odette Pretty - Skills, Health, Community Outreach, and Physical Education

Originally from Newfoundland, Canada, Ms. Pretty is thrilled to now call Eleuthera home. Ms. Pretty completed her Bachelors of Arts in 2007. She studied Applied Human Sciences, a multi-disciplinary educational experience where psychology, sociology, and anthropology are integrated in applied situations. In 2009, she completed her Bachelors of Education, with a specialization in Global Perspectives Education. While completing her studies, Ms. Pretty worked in the fields of community health promotion and youth leadership development in a number of different communities: from Montreal to Alaska, France to Belize and Togo to Hawaii. This work helped to feed some of her greatest passions: travel, social justice learning, and working with young adults.
Ms. Teri Sands - Tourism Education and Management (TEAM)
Ms. Teri Sands works for the Eleuthera Division of The Ministry of Tourism. There, she is responsible for many projects, including education and outreach. In this role, she teaches DCMS grade 9 students in the TEAM program. The TEAM program is designed to help students understand the importance of tourism and eco-tourism to the Bahamian economy and to develop their understandings of the role that they can play in this field. Ms. Sands is a native of Rock Sound, Eleuthera who has spent time living both in Nassau and Maryland.
Mrs. Kate Siener - Science - katesiener@dcmsbahamas.org
Mrs. Siener graduated from Brown University in 2002 with a Bachelors of Arts in American Civilization. Before coming to Eleuthera, she spent five years working in Boston Public Schools first for the nonprofit, Boston Plan for Excellence, supporting the implementation of instructional programs, and then as a fifth grade teacher at the Richard J. Murphy K-8 School. She holds a Masters degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts in Boston. Now in her third year at DCMS, Mrs. Siener is helping lead staff development and build a community of learning teachers. She teaches seventh grade science and continues to be excited to use the waterfronts of South Eleuthera as a lab for her students.
