Mr. Brad Ferguson - Religious Knowledge

Pastor Brad, a native of Eleuthera, grew up in Rock Sound where he attended Rock Sound Primary and Preston H. Albury High School. He completed his pastoral training and exams in Nassau at the Church of God Convention Center. He has served as the pastor of the Church of God in Weymss Bight for nearly five years and teaches Sunday school there. He shares his passion for music with his congregation playing guitar, drums, and bass with the church band during services and teaching youth to play. In his second year at DCMS, Pastor Brad enjoys shooting hoops with the students before school and teaching the Religious Knowledge curriculum in a middle school classroom setting.
 
Joanna Paul
Dr. Joanna Paul - Principal

Originally from London but raised in California, Dr. Paul, has a doctorate in international education from the University of London, a masters in educational leadership from California State University Northridge and a bachelors in Secondary education from the University of Pennsylvania.   She has been a social studies and English teacher, an assistant principal at the first charter middle school in Los Angeles and the principal of an environmentally themed public school in South L.A.  Dr. Paul has also taught education courses at several universities and served as the executive director of the oldest outdoor education non-profit in California.  

Dr. Paul plays a diverse leadership role in the Cape Eleuthera Foundation.  Her primary function is to ensure standards and accountability for the operations at Deep Creek Middle School by guiding the vision of the school, reviewing programs for quality and assisting with strategic planning.  She runs the day-to-day operations of the school, mentors new faculty, assists with community relations and parent outreach and supervises curriculum design.  Special projects include boarding school placement, organizing education conferences, green school initiatives, and board recruitment.  For the larger organization, Dr. Paul supports development initiatives, admissions and placements and advises on specific business and administrative tasks associated with the grantee programs.

 
Mr. Will Simmons - Arts and Health & Skills

Will Simmons is a native of Harbour Island, North Eleuthera. He attended school and university in the UK, Ireland and Canada and earned his BA at The University of London in Social Anthropology and International Development Studies. Mr.Simmons is passionate about education, social change and the preservation of the cultural and ecological heritage of the Bahamas. He is an active member of the community in Eleuthera, he taught reading for Exceptional Education Outreach, an Eleuthera based literacy organization that works in public schools across the island and he has run drama and after-school tutoring programs at the Harbour Island All age School for the past several years. Mr. Simmons has an extensive background in theatre and started 'Space To Create' a very successful summer arts education and youth leadership program that has run in Harbour Island for the past 5 years and enrolls over 90 children. He is eager to be a part of the exciting and progressive approaches to education at DCMS and to spend time in South Eleuthera.

Angela Slowinski

Ms. Slowinski, originally from the mountains of Massachusetts, is happy to be experiencing life on the island of Eleuthera. After completing internships in various Boston and Brookline community and education settings, and captaining the college soccer team, Ms. Slowinski earned her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development with a concentration in Elementary Education from Wheelock College. Ms. Slowinski then went on to earn her Master’s degree in special education from UMass Amherst, while teaching in the Walnut Hill Middle School program in Massachusetts. After Walnut Hill, Ms. Slowinski taught for another year at an Elementary School in Western Massachusetts before heading to North Charleston South Carolina. There, she taught reading, coached track, and cotaught Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. After two years, she returned to the mountains of Western Massachusetts where she worked in Northampton, teaching special education, facilitating the after-school running program, and coteaching grade 7 English, Mathematics, and Science. After one year, she received the Harold Grinspoon Award of Teaching Excellence. Most recently, Ms. Slowinski completed a program to earn a principal’s certification for grades pk-6. Ms. Slowinski is excited to be sharing her love of mathematics with the students at DCMS, and to be part of a small community with a powerful mission.
 
Emma Sparrow

Ms. Sparrow, originally from Kingston Ontario, received a degree in Kinesiology from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University in 2010. During her last semester at WLU she went on an exchange to Melbourne, Australia which sparked a love for traveling and experiencing different cultures. Once back in Canada she attended Queen’s University in 2011 completing a Bachelors of Education degree. During that year she visited DCMS on a placement and was eager to return. Ms. Sparrow is now thrilled to be back in Eleuthera and teaching Social Studies and Physical Education at the middle school. Ms. Sparrow grew up playing a variety of sports and is looking forward to working with all the afterschool teams to get students active and passionate about sports. Ms. Sparrow also can’t wait to get started on working towards sending students to summer camps, as growing up and working in the camping world was a significant positive influence on her life. She looks forward to meeting all the members of the DCMS community and have a fabulous year!
 
Ms. Jennifer Stone - English

Ms. Stone is thrilled to be teaching English at Deep Creek Middle School. She grew up in Stanford, California, and then moved to New York City to attend New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. At Gallatin she designed her own concentration in philosophy and social justice, and studied abroad in Johannesburg, South Africa. After college, Jennifer moved to Portland, Oregon, where she student taught ninth grade English at the Spanish English International School while getting her Master of Arts in Teaching from Lewis & Clark College. She is passionate about education rooted in justice and joy, and can't wait to learn from and with her students.
 
Rashida Sweeting - Administrative Assistant

Ms. Sweeting is a native of Water Ford, Eleuthera. She attended Wemyss Bight Primary and Preston H. Albury High School. Before DCMS, she worked as a special education teacher with Exceptional Education Outreach and as a tour guide at Princess Cays. She has a passion for children and Bahamian culture, and is so excited to be working at DCMS.
 
Ms. Carola Walker - Science, Community Outreach and Physical Education

Mrs. Walker is excited to be teaching Science at Deep Creek Middle School.  She hails from beautiful Harbour Island.  In 2001, she graduated from Harbour Island All Age School and later received her bachelors of education from the College of the Bahamas in biology and combined science.  She has been teaching science in multiple government schools in The Bahamas for the past five years and recently completed her certification as an ESL/EFL instructor.  Mrs. Walker was drawn to the exciting and innovative teaching principles at DCMS and their focus on Leadership, responsible citizenship and academic growth.  Privileged to be here at DCMS and more importantly on the island of Eleuthera, she is prepared to learn and teach in this nurturing community focused on building a better Bahamas ONE CHILD AT A TIME!
