History
Deep Creek Middle School and Resource Center (DCMS) was founded in September 2001 with the goal of increasing access to educational resources for people in South Eleuthera. The school has grown from 16 students in grades 7 & 8, to 33 students in grades 7, 8, & 9 and has made numerous opportunities available to students and families that otherwise would not have been possible. The After School Program has been in place since the school’s inception and runs 2 afternoons a week and on Saturday mornings. This program works with children from 8-18 years of age as well as adults in the community.
Deep Creek Middle School operates as a division of the Cape Eleuthera Island School, a Bahaman non-profit company whose mission it is to provide place-based education, scientific research, and community leadership in order to move toward a more livable future on Eleuthera and throughout the world. DCMS works closely with The Island School and the Cape Eleuthera Institute to offer students a unique academic experience that connects them more intimately with their environment and on-going research being conducted in South Eleuthera.
As DCMS is fully recognized as an independent school by the Bahamian Ministry of Education, students participate in national testing and report scores to the regional superintendent in Savannah Sound.
Curriculum
